Frequently asked questions
- 01
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing musculoskeletal issues. Osteopaths use hands-on techniques to improve movement, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
- 02
Common conditions include:
• Back and neck pain
• Joint pain (shoulder, hip, knee, etc.)
• Sciatica
• Sports injuries
• Headaches arising from the neck
• Muscle tension and postural issues
• Work-related or repetitive strain injuries
- 03
No, you do not need a referral to see an osteopath. You can book directly with us. However, if you’re using private medical insurance, some providers may require a referral.
- 04
Your initial consultation includes:
• A full case history of your medical background and symptoms
• A physical examination (you may be asked to remove some clothing)
• Diagnosis and explanation of the findings
• Treatment, if appropriate, and a plan for follow-up care
- 05
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. You may be asked to undress to your underwear for assessment and treatment, but we provide towels upon request and always respect your privacy.
Sports shorts and sports bras are generally appropriate. However, if you have mid to upper back complaints, for example, it’s useful to be able to see your full spine for a full and complete assessment. Let us know if you’d prefer to remain clothed — we can usually adapt techniques accordingly.
- 06
• Initial consultation: 30–45 minutes
