Cookie Policy

This policy explains what is stored on your device when you use this website, and by whom. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more broadly.

The short version: nothing is stored on your device, and nothing is sent to anyone else, until you say it may be. We ask on your first visit and you can change the answer at any time. We use no advertising or tracking cookies at all, and we never send anything about you personally to anyone.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. Related technologies do the same job by other means, including local storage, which keeps data in your browser rather than sending it back with every request. Where this policy says "cookies" it means both.

2. Cookies we set ourselves

None. This site is a set of static pages served from Cloudflare's network. It has no login, no shopping basket and no preference switches, so there is nothing for us to remember about you between pages and we set no first-party cookie of our own. The one thing we do remember — your answer to the cookie question — is kept in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie.

3. Analytics

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used — which pages people read, roughly where they came from, and whether anything is broken. It helps us work out which pages are worth writing and which are not.

It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<id>, which give your browser a random identifier so a return visit is not counted twice. They last up to two years, and you can delete them at any time.

We never send Google anything about you personally. Not your name, email address or phone number, and nothing you enter into the "Can we help?" tool — those answers never leave your browser unless you send them to us yourself. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, we have not linked it to Google Ads, and we have Google Signals — which would tie visits to signed-in Google accounts across devices — switched off. Advertising storage is explicitly refused on every page, whatever you choose here.

One thing worth being straight about: because our pages are about specific conditions, the fact that you read /sciatica tells Google something about what you may be dealing with. That is exactly why this is a question rather than something we do by default, and why declining costs you nothing.

4. Embedded content from other companies

Two parts of this site are embedded from someone else's servers. Neither loads until you allow it.

• Cliniko — the online booking form. When it loads, Cliniko sets a session cookie (_cliniko_app_session) so it can keep track of your booking as you move through it. It is strictly necessary for the booking service, it is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and it is set by Cliniko rather than by us. Cliniko is a patient management system used by healthcare practices; see the Cliniko privacy policy.
• Google Maps — the map in "Find us". Loading it does not set a cookie on this site, but the request itself tells Google your IP address, your browser and which page you were on. That is why it is treated the same way.

5. Your choice, and what it controls

On your first visit we ask what you are happy with. Accept all and Reject all are given equal weight and neither is preselected, or you can choose Choose and set the two independently — they are separate questions and you can say yes to one and no to the other.

• Strictly necessary — always on. This is only the record of the choice you make here. There is nothing else.
• Analytics — off unless you turn it on. Nothing is sent to Google Analytics, and none of its cookies are set, until you do; the Google script is not even loaded.
• Embedded content — off unless you turn it on. The map and the home page booking form show a short placeholder instead, each with a button to load just that one if you want it. Loading one that way does not change your overall choice.

Either way you can still book. Going to the booking page loads the form directly, because at that point you have explicitly asked for it. You can also book by phone, WhatsApp or email.

Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie — it would be a strange thing to set a cookie in order to record that you did not want cookies. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

To change your mind at any time, use Cookie settings in the footer of any page. Turning analytics back off deletes the _ga cookies and reloads the page, so it stops immediately rather than at the end of your visit.

6. What this site does not do

There are no advertising pixels, no remarketing tags, no social media trackers, no session recording, no heatmaps and no profiling. We do not sell or share anything the site collects, and we do not combine it with your patient records.

The site's typefaces used to be loaded from Google Fonts, which told Google your IP address on every page. They are now served from this site, so that no longer happens and there is nothing to consent to.

If we ever add advertising or anything else that stores data on your device, we will add it to the choice above and update this page in the same change.

7. Controlling cookies in your browser

Separately from the choice above, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and set it to reject third-party cookies entirely. Doing so will not affect this site, with one exception: blocking Cliniko's cookie will stop the online booking form from working, and you would need to book by phone, WhatsApp or email instead.

Blocking the Google Maps embed will leave the placeholder where the map is; the clinic's address and a link to Google Maps are given in text alongside it.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever what the site loads changes, and revise the date shown below.
